FAQs

What is Giving Day?

UCalgary Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising blitz that starts at 12:01 a.m. April 25, 2019, and ends at 11:59 p.m. This year, our goal is to raise $1 million.

What is the impact of Giving Day?

It’s truly amazing what a difference a day makes. When our family of alumni, staff, faculty and supporters come together for Giving Day, incredible moments happen. Take a look at how gifts from last year’s Giving Day are still making an impact on our campus and beyond.

How can I be part of the action on Giving Day?

  1. Make your gift online to what matters to you! Visit ucalgary.ca/givingday, select “Give Now” or choose the faculty or area you would like to support, and make your gift.
  2. Share images and messages on social media using #UCalgaryGivingDay

How do the matching funds work?

Due to the amazing response from our community, matching funds for Giving Day 2019 have run out! If you made your gift prior to funds running out, eligible gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $2,500 per gift. That means if you made a $100 gift it will be matched with $100, whereas a $5,000 gift will be matched with $2,500. All eligible gifts will automatically be matched.

Can I give to a specific faculty?

Yes. Each faculty has a campaign on our Giving Day website with their priority funds identified. Just find your faculty on the homepage and select which of their priority funds you would like to support.

Is there a minimum gift amount?

No, there is no minimum donation amount. All gifts — big or small — make an impact.

Can I make my gift over the phone or by mail?

Yes! To make a gift over the phone, call 403.220.8261 or our toll-free number, 1.800.972.8632. If you prefer to mail in your donation, download the printable gift form. You can find our mailing address on the form. Due to the high volume of gifts and timing, however, we can’t guarantee that your mailed gift will be matched.

Can I create my own fund?

Yes, you can establish a new fund in the form of named student awards. A minimum pledge amount of $6,000, with minimum of $2,000 payment received before midnight on April 25, 2019, is required to establish a named award. Our team can work with you to establish the terms of reference. For more information, contact give@ucalgary.ca or call 403.220.8261.

How do I follow the action of Giving Day?

Once Giving Day starts, go to our dedicated Giving Day website to get all the latest Giving Day information, including progress reports, videos and more. We’ll be sharing updates on social media too, so be sure to follow @UCalgaryAlumni on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for real time progress.

Can I only contribute to Giving Day on April 25?

Not at all! Your time is valuable and you may not be available on April 25, or you might be eager to make your gift early. Starting April 1, you can make your gift right until the end of Giving Day at 11:59 p.m. on April 25 for it to count toward the Giving Day total. Matching funds for eligible gifts will also be included during this time period. Our Giving Day website goes live April 1 so we’ll be ready whenever you are.

Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes. All donations of $25 or more will receive a tax receipt.

What portion of my gift will go toward administrative or processing fees?

None! Your entire gift goes to the area that you designated.

What follow-up will I receive from the University of Calgary regarding my gift?

Once you’ve made an online gift, you will receive a confirmation email that the donation transaction has been successfully completed. Tax receipts will be emailed or mailed before June 30, 2019. After Giving Day is over, we will share updates to let you how your gift is making a difference.
